Here’s our base setting we’ll be using on our Mikuni carb. Obviously all motors are different so treat these as a guide only.

    Main Jet – 260
    Pilot jet – 40
Needle clip on second slot up from the bottom.
Needle jet (emulsion tube) – Q-8
Air screw 1 3/4 turns out.

    Just to add.

    The slide is a 2.5
    needle is a 6FJ6

    to add, I’ve got a vm 32 320-33 model,
I’ll get it set up on a dyno and compare to a VM34 I’ve got kicking about

The 32 is running a bit rich as its a work in progress but it runs pretty well

    Main Jet – 185
    Pilot jet – 50
    Needle jet (emulsion tube) 159 – Q-6
    The slide is a 3.0
    needle is a 6DP17
Needle clip on third slot up from the bottom.
Air screw 1 3/4 turns out.

Will be interesting to see the difference between the 34mm and 32mm. Dan barford reckoned he had better results with the 32mm.

Does anyone know any other bikes that either of these carbs are fitted to as standard ?

after an extensive session on the dyno i can say that i didn’t get any noticeable difference in measurable power between the VM32 and the VM34 back to back, same day, same dyno, same exhaust and jetted accordingly, the 34 sounded better though, there may be a difference in throttle response but the dyno i was using wasn’t able to measure. ill get the settings up when i get in

    vm34 settings were:
    Main Jet – 210
    Pilot jet – 50
    Needle jet (emulsion tube) 159 – Q-6
    The slide is a 2.5
    needle is a 6DP17
Needle clip on 2nd slot up from the bottom.
Air screw 1 3/4 turns out.
sounded much roartier but no discernible peak power or torque difference or movement up/down rev range
