This procedure is to be carried out when doing any between race meeting inspection / ring change and strip down of the engine.
- Remove spark plug
- Diagonally undo head nuts rotating each nut 1 flat of the nut at a time until loose and remove nuts
- Lift head off
- Lift off barrel. Try not to tear Base gaskets if torn replace with same thickness gaskets always check squish after re-assembly (see later in guide) If doing this at a race meeting leave base gaskets on crankcase

Engine should at this stage look like
Ring check / replacement between meetings or at track
- Place blue roll or clean rag around con rod at crank case mouth to stop any dropped items going in to the crankcase.

- Remove ring.
- Check the ring in the bore by putting in base of the bore as it would go in with the piston.
- Recommended replacement after each meeting.
